| dc.description.abstract | Community-based participatory research begins with relationships. The role of the researcher in the initial stages of the research relationship is to listen. Although it might not always be framed as research, community organizations and activists typically have questions they seek to answer, policies they believe to not working, or social concerns they believe need to be examined. An important role of the researcher is to work with community partners to design a research project that gets to what they seek to learn in a way that makes best sense to them. In this panel discussion, community leaders engaged in participatory research and researchers share their thoughts on what CBPR means to them.
